Overview Skills Pricing

Open ocean kayak course takes place at Anacapa Island. We will take the Island Packers ferry from Oxnard to East Landing Cove at Anacapa Island. After unloading our gear onto the landing pier we will don our kayaking gear and head out for a 15 mile circumnavigation of Anacapa Island. Along the way we will experience many of the sea caves of the North side and scope out the current at the West point of West Anacapa Island.

Once we are back at East Landing Cove we will bring out gear to the top of the island and set up camp.

During the evening hour we will plot a course and ferry angle across the Santa Barbara Channel and discuss weather, shipping lands, channel crossings, and pace.

Waking up early the next morning, we will evaluate the weather and make a decision to cross the channel or not. Given favorable seas and wind conditions, we will begin our channel crossing with our gear packed in our kayaks. In the case that we cannot cross due to inclement weather, we will enjoy a second day of paddling around Anacapa Island and get picked up by the Island Packers ferry in the afternoon.
